Knits and Tits

Knits and Tits was a collaborative project between myself and the wonderful textile collective Knits and Notes. We came together to initially produce an erotic feminist knitwear calendar, which aimed to refer to a history of women's arts being overlooked and under-credited for the skill they require. This project also acts a social commentary on women's bodily autonomy and how women's bodies are also tools of great skill, and vessels of nuance feminine sexuality, if they so choose to express it.

We worked together on this project for over 10 months, producing the Knits and Tits Calendar, and this project culminated in a sold-out launch event at Paradiso, sponsored by Mail & Female, which was a multimedia evening, featuring musical acts, guest lectures, and textile workshops. Paradiso was also so kind as to give us the facade exhibition in december so we were visible on the outside of their historic venue here in Amsterdam. Additionally, this project was picked by the dutch publication De Volkskrant and a profile was written about it, which gained virality, and was then republished in the Belgian sister newspaper De Morgen. As well as being discussed on the Volkskrant podcast and a prominent dutch radio station.

DJ Sluterdijk x Em Revill 2024

Local music talent and recipient of the Slim Radio DJ competition 2023 DJ Sluterdijk reached out to me to direct and shoot her artist branding and event imagery. We shot her portraits at Sloterdijk station in Amsterdam and put together an array which could be used to send to promoters, make promotional posters and other media. We wanted the shoot to clearly show her identity as a sex-positive, feminist DJ carving a space out for herself in the local scene.

Cyber Atelier Issue 5 - Megaphone Cowboy - Promo Editorial Shoot

In order to promote Issue 5 of Cyber Atelier, I devised a concept that was a queer and colourful re-writing of old spaghetti western movies. The concept was to subvert the hypermasculinity of this genre and swing it into a hyper feminine, camp direction. I directed the shoot, which focused on making the promo video mostly, but we had time on the shoot to take some stills too.

Cyber Atelier Issue 5 - Cover & Attention-themed editorial

In collaboration with the talented fashion designer MarlienWEAR, modelled by Kim Schreurs, I formulated a concept which incorporated her bold, eye-catching designs with the theme of attention - which felt like a natural fit. I wanted this shoot to present a dichotomy between the colourful clothing and the mundane setting, and thus bringing attention to less interrogated social codes of dress and how we all adorn ourselves in our daily lives - posing the question, why do we dress a certain way in daily contexts when joyous expression is also an option? I chose to situate these editorials in a place which suggests monotony and the everyday - public transport, during morning rush hour, providing a contrast between sartorial and setting when these vestments of bold tulle are presented in adjacency to overcast weather and other citizens of Amsterdam, presumably en route to their 9-to-5. These sites felt like liminal spaces where the common person is merely passing in the space between their home and their place of work, public transport is never a destination, but a means of going elsewhere.

Additionally, I wrote a piece here which included my musings on the theme of attention in a modern, western, capitalist context.

Cyber Atelier Issue 4 - A Night Out and the Day After

Expanding on the magazine's usual repeat recipe feature, I conceptialised and photographed an editorial shoot based on the narrative of a partygoers night out and the day after told through the food that they would consume throughout the course of their festivities, including joke recipes, as well as a recipe that I developed for this issue.

Eline Brau - #ChooseYourCharacter - Amsterdam Fashion Institute Graduation Project

For this shoot I collaborated with Eline to shoot the concept which was the final assignment in her Bachelor studies at AMFI. This shoot was centered around youth subcultures which one would see at various festivals and dance scenes. Specifically this shoot was inspired by the gamification of youth styles as seen on Tiktok and other social media sites. The project is a mock-up for a Vinted, purely for educational purposes, no copyright infringement intended.

Reveuse Vintage - Wish You Were Here

To conclude my internship at Reveuse Vintage, I was tasked with coming up with a final project editorial shoot.

Drawing inspiration for my own personal love for collecting vintage postcards, I wanted to create something that embodied the escapism and wanderlust that we craved during the pandemic, but offered a far less risky alternative to crossing borders. From this, Wish You Were Here was born, a collection of 4 editorial shoots sprinkled with jet set glamour and a dose of nostalgia.

For this project I shot, styled, and edited all aspects.
